Fabiano Caruana is now world no 4 on the blitz live rating list after a thrilling finish saw him beat Richard Rapport in Armageddon to win the Gashimov Memorial. Rapport began the last day with a 2-point lead over Caruana but had run out of steam by the end and couldn’t quite hold on. Shakhriyar Mamedyarov finished 3rd while Sergey Karjakin was 4th, despite a shocking 5/14 score in blitz for the 2016 World Blitz Champion. Vishy Anand was unable to mount a recovery and finished in overall last place.
